I may not always listen to the Beach Boys these days but when I do, I always remember why. There is a purity and joy to it that so much music attempts to capture but falls short of. The arrangements, the melodies, all work together to create an experience of youth that is timeless. Even now, I can remember what it felt like when I started listening to them in sixth grade. It was music that filled me with a sort of joy I hadn’t felt. Their story is not without its darkness but, the joy they brought into the world will last as long as people care to listen to music.
