Astrud Gilberto is the undoubted Queen of Bossa Nova. A few years ago Verve Records reissued her album “A Certain Smile, A Certain Sadness.” That album was a collaboration between her and organist Walter Wanderly. One of the highlights of the reissue was the addition of the beautiful piano ballad “The Sadness of After.” It is one of the most obscure of all the songs by Astrud, but it is one of the most plaintive and moving.
